I visited Oahu in May for the first time, and I already cannot wait to go back! It’s so freaking beautiful and amazing. From the stunning beaches to the delicious food and endless activities, Oahu truly has it all. I want to tell you about some fun activities and delicious spots I loved, so you can’t miss.
Quick Snorkeling Tip
Don’t worry if you don’t have time for a full snorkeling excursion. Head to any ABC store (they’re literally on every block) and grab some affordable snorkeling gear for just $15. For the best underwater sights, avoid Waikiki and check out Sharks Cove instead. It’s one of the top Oahu must-do activities! The beautiful cove and vibrant marine life make it a snorkeler’s paradise. Expect to see colorful fish, sea turtles, and maybe even a few octopuses if you’re lucky! My friend Emma and I got to see a giant sea turtle swim right up to us, and also a pod of dolphins! It was so surreal!
Food Truck and Restaurant Highlights
For foodies, Giovanni’s Shrimp Truck is an absolute must, we ate there so many times. This legendary food truck serves up garlic shrimp that’s out of this world! Not feeling shrimp? Theres a whole bunch of food trucks all together with all kinds of food! If you’re in the mood for a nice sit-down meal, Haleiwa Joe’s offers an amazing dining experience with stunning views and delicious seafood. For your caffeine fix, Coffee Cove and Green World Coffee are two fantastic spots, offering rich, aromatic coffee to fuel your adventures. These were our go-to’s for the week. And if you love tacos, North Shore Tacos will not disappoint with their fresh and flavorful offerings. We also ate here several times!! Another great spot is Pounders Restaurant, located in such a fun outdoor mall area filled with many shops and eateries. This spot is perfect for trying a variety of local dishes and picking up unique and local souvenirs!!
Explore and Enjoy Nature
Waimea Falls is definitely worth the $25 entrance fee. (So much so that I went twice) It’s a beautiful botanical garden that leads to a stunning waterfall. You can take a leisurely hike through lush greenery, and once you reach the falls, enjoy a refreshing swim in the natural pool. It’s one of my top Oahu must-do activities.
If you have extra time, the movie set tour at Kualoa Ranch is 100% a must-see. This iconic ranch has been the backdrop for numerous Hollywood films and TV shows, including Jurassic Park, Godzilla, and Lost. During the tour, you’ll get to see the actual film locations, hear behind-the-scenes stories, and even reenact some famous scenes. The ranch itself is breathtaking, with sprawling landscapes, towering mountains, and lush valleys. It’s a truly immersive experience that combines movie magic with the natural beauty of Oahu. Oh, and try to book with Stephanie, because she was amazing, thank me later!
Sweet Treats and Refreshing Drinks
No trip to Oahu is complete without indulging in some local treats. Try shaved ice with all the traditional toppings, like mochi, nata de coco, ice cream and condensed milk. It’s a perfect way to cool down in the Hawaiian heat. Don’t miss out on the mai tais—they have become my new favorite, sip on those tropical cocktails while enjoying the sunset! Açai bowls are another refreshing option, packed with fresh fruits and granola, I’m pretty sure I had at least one a day. Lastly, you have to try malasadas. Leonard’s Bakery has the best, with warm, fluffy pastries dusted in sugar, but you can find these delicious treats all over the island. Buy them by the dozen, you will not regret it!
